Anatoly Chachula passed away Sunday, November 27'th in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Longtime resident of Ukrainian Village and, later, Oak Lawn, Illinois where he developed many lifelong friendships. Anatoly was 94 years old.
Devoted husband of 60 years to Paula ( Hochhalter ) and loving father of Julie ( Bill ) Galbreath; Cherished grandfather to Nicole & Jackie. Preceded in death by parents John and Weronika, and by brothers Adam and Walter and sisters Olga ( Orr ) and Rosa ( Kuchta ). Uncle to many.
Anatoly was born on June 7, 1928, in Slowita, Ukraine. In December, 1951, he and his family immigrated as refugees to the United States after enduring the dangers and tragic hardships of World War II. Anatoly and family were evacuated from their homeland to Germany where they were kept in war camps for years until the war ended. At the war's conclusion, they traveled to Illinois through the Port of New Orleans to settle in Chicago where they were greeted by old friends and welcomed into the Ukrainian community.
In his youth, Anatoly attended trade school in Lviv, Ukraine and later Ulm, Germany, and once in Chicago he became a tool and die maker and longtime employee of Goodman Manufacturing Corp. He retired from Western Cullen Hayes and in his later years, Anatoly was an accomplished jack-of-all-trades as he acquired knowledge and developed interests in investing, personal computers, and completed numerous home improvement and repair projects for his family and friends. Being the skilled tradesman that he always was, he approached all of these activities with total conviction and precision.
Anatoly was a devoted member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
Memorial Funeral Services for Anatoly will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023, 11:00 A.M. with everyone meeting at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 851 N. Oakley Boulevard ( at W. Rice Street ), Chicago, 60622. Interment will be private.
