Anna
Kopystynsky
February 8, 2026
Anna Kopystynsky ( nee Jarosz ) died peacefully at home, with family at her side, on Sunday, February 8, 2026. A deeply faithful woman, she lived her life in anticipation of the Resurrection.
Born in Urych, Ukraine, in 1935, she and her parents were forcibly removed during the war and sent to work on a labor farm outside Regensburg, Germany. She later emigrated to the United States via Mississippi, where she worked on a cotton plantation alongside sharecroppers. She eventually settled in Chicago, where she met her late husband, Wasyl.
After the passing of her husband, she lived for many years with her loving younger brother, the late Jaroslaw.
"Baba K" leaves behind her three children: Andrij (Tamara), Olya, and Christine Hayda ( the late Fr. Pavlo ). She took great pride in her many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Andrea Krutiak (Dcn. Marko), with children Damian and Taisa; Danylo Maksymiw (Aleksandra), with children Emilia, Nina, and Roman; Larissa Krutiak (Petro) with sons Lucas and Phillip; Julian Hayda (Summer), with daughter Theophania; Zachary Hayda; Ilya Hayda; and Dymytri Hayda. She also leaves behind family in Ukraine and Western Europe.
A principled defender of Ukrainian and Eastern Christian spirituality, she and her late husband were founding members of Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Church, where her funeral services will take place.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Church ( N. Oakley Boulevard at W. Superior Street ) from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A,.M., with the Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 A.M., followed by a procession and interment at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery; Chicago.
May her memory be eternal .
