Anthony Velez Campos, a veteran of the Vietnam War, and longtime resident of the Bridgeport neighborhood in Chicago, passed away on October 5, 2021. "Tony", as he was known to his family & friends, was born May 22, 1948 to Antonio (Sr.) and Genevieve Campos. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 19 and trained at Fort Belvior, VA. as a Private, First Class for the Army, Tony served his country in both Europe & in Vietnam.
The U.S. Army recognized Tony for his honorable service with The National Defense Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, The Marksman Badge (M-14), The Vietnam Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal and two Overseas Bars.
As part of his service Tony was trained as a cook. After the war, he returned home to work as a chef at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. Tony had a passion for all things motorcycle related, was a Classical Hollywood movies' buff, enjoyed cooking for & spending time with his family and spoiling his two cats: Bogie & Audrey.
Tony was known for his compassion to animals & his overwhelming generosity. He was "a stranger to no one." Tony was preceded in death by his wife, his daughter and his parents. He is survived by his Cousin Joaquin Velez & family.
His family has organized a memorial service to honor Tony's life and military service. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from 9-11 A.M. at Muzyka Funeral Home, 2157 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago, IL 60622. Funeral Service will be presided by Father Edward J. Cronin of St. Helen's parish at 11:00 A.M. at Muzyka Chapel. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hire Heroes USA (www.hireheroesusa.org) or to Chicago's Harmony House for Cats (www.hhforcats.org).
