Dr. Neonila S. Lychyk  passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.  She was 101 years old and had just celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary with her beloved husband George (Sviatoslav).  Devoted mother of Dr. Victor ( Dr. Stephanie ) Lychyk and Dr. Natalie ( Myron ) Markewycz.  Cherished grandmother of Dr. Hanna Markewycz and Alex Markewycz.  Beloved sister of the late Boris ( Diana ) Sherstiuk and the late Lina (the late Wasyl) Kosyk  and the infant Kostyantyn Sherstiuk.  Fond cousin of Ludmila ( Riabucha ) Bogdan  and the late Victor Riabucha.  Dear aunt of Lydia (Thomas) Schill and Kathy (James) Burns.

Dr. Lychyk spent 30 years as a highly respected anesthesiologist at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park and Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois.  She was a long-standing member of the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America and was recognized as a centenarian member of UMANA last year.

Dr. Lychyk was an active member of St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago where she served as editor of numerous commemorative books, a parish pictorial directory, and the magazine "Cathedral Life".

She loved her family dearly.  She loved her native Ukraine, her adopted homeland of the United States of America, and the beauty of nature everywhere.

Visitation will be held at Muzyka Funeral Home, 2157 W, Chicago Avenue in Chicago's Ukrainian Village neighborhood on Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 5-8 P.M. with a Panachyda ( Ukrainian Prayer Service ) at 7 P.M.

Funeral service will be held at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 2238 W. Cortez Street ( at N. Oakley Boulevard ) on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 11:00 A.M.   Following the funeral service, a procession will depart for Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove, IL for a graveside committal service.
