Obituary

Maureen Patricia Gillott ( Doyle ), lovingly known as "Moe" throughout her life, passed away peacefully at home in Chicago, after a 8 year battle with cancer.

By her side was her devoted husband of 47 years, David and their five children:  Matthew (Thea), Nicholas (Janee), Christine, Michael, and Emily (Francisco).  Moe was one of eight children born to Mary (nee Caddigan) and James Doyle.  She was preceded in death by her parents;  her sisters, Colette, Karen Landis (Michael), and Madonna; and her brothers, James (Judy) and Dennis (Laura).  She is survived by her sisters, Eileen Crawford (Hal) and Maggie Keane (Patrick.

Moe loved nothing more than being a mother to her five children -- until her grandchildren arrived.  Christopher, Maddie, Niya, Eddie, Paiton, Jaxon, Hannah, Sofia, and Cruz brought endless joy to Grandma Moe.  Whether cheering from the sidelines at games, sitting in the audience at performances, serving as mystery reader, confidant, sous chef, playmate, or partner in crime, she embraced every role with unmatched love and enthusiasm.  Being their grandmother brought her happiness beyond comparison.

Maureen and Dave both grew up in Englewood, they eventually moved about 80 blocks north, remaining on the same street where they raised their five children in Chicago's East Village neighborhood.  Moe stayed home to raise the family in a neighborhood many considered dangerous.  But Moe Gillott was fearless--a bulldog who was never intimidated by anything.  Over the next 40 years, her street-smart children grew alongside the changing neighborhood.  Maureen took immense pride in seeing all five graduate from St. Ignatius College Prep and go out into the world as Men and Women for Others.

The house on N. Winchester was always filled with laughter and music.  The soundtrack of family vacations and weekends reflected Moe's love of Motown.

Maureen Gillott will be deeply missed by her many cousins, lifelong friends, nieces, nephews, neighbors and all who knew and loved her.  We will miss her singing along to the radio--much to Dave's chagrin--answering the birds with chirps of her own, her unmistakable laugh, her unforgettable hugs, and the endless kindness and love she gave so freely.
