Oksana Marchuk of Hinsdale passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, with her family by her side.
Oksana Marchuk (nee Holian), 88, was born on February 16, 1936, in Nemiriw, Ukraine. She lived there as a young girl until World War II forced her family to leave Ukraine. They made their way to Germany where they found refuge in Mittenwald. In 1944, her family immigrated to the United States, ultimately settling in Archbold, Ohio. She graduated from Archbold High School in 1954 and attended Kent State University. It was at a social event in Cleveland where she met the love of her life, Basil Marchuk, whom she later married. They moved to Hinsdale, IL, where they raised their family and celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Oksana enjoyed raising her four children, playing bridge (achieving life master) and tennis, and traveling. She was an accomplished cook, admired for her dinner parties. She was a dedicated employee at Marshall Field's / Macy's for more than 30 years. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Basil Marchuk and her son Daniel. She is survived by her daughters Lydia Marchuk, Martha (Michael) Charysh, and Mary (John) Worthington; her daughter-in-law Rose Marchuk; her grandchildren Lesia (Thomas) Wolf and Michael Charysh, Elizabeth (Thomas) Sobczak, Andrew (Emily) Worthington, and Kristen Worthington; and Jennifer, Megan, and Stephanie Marchuk; and her great-grandchildren Andrew, Caden, and Blair.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. - 11:30 A.M. at Muzyka Funeral Home, 2157 W. Chicago Avenue; Chicago, IL 60622, followed by a Panachyda ( Ukrainian prayer service ). Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon at Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 835 N. Oakley Boulevard ( at W. Rice Street ); Chicago, IL 60622. Interment: Elmwood Cemetery; River Grove, IL .
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hinsdale Hospital Foundation, in her memory.
