Tyrsa Larissa Dutko, 84, Chicago, IL, a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on March 15, 2022.
Born in 1937 in Ternopil, Ukraine as Tyrsa Zeleniak; she fled the then-Soviet Union alongside her mother, Eugenia Bril, father, Michael Zeleniak and her brother, Ihor Zeleniak for the promise of freedom in the United States. She raised her sons, Orest and Nestor with her husband, Wolodymyr Dutko in Chicago. They spent 53 beautiful years together until her husband's passing in 2013.
She is survived by her two sons, Orest and Nestor Dutko, daughters-in-law Myra and Victoria, granddaughters Aleksa and Tanya, and great-grandsons Michael and James. She is also survived by her brother John "Ihor" Zeleniak and sister-in-law Janice, her niece Tyrsa (husband Danny) Lentino and grandnieces Bryana, Adryana and Cristyana.
Tyrsa leaves behind a legacy built on service to family, church, and community. A proud Ukrainian-American, she was an active member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. Tyrsa traveled the world with her husband and sons, from across the United States and throughout all of Europe, including back to their native Ukraine. An avid reader, pysanky crafter, seamstress, Tyrsa loved to share her talents with her family and friends. Tyrsa also shared her love of cooking, baking, and the holidays by hosting beautiful and extravagant holiday parties for her family. Despite her age, Tyrsa stayed connected with her family and friends by facebook, social media and her favorite by hand written letters.
Tyrsa will be deeply missed, but her memory and her legacy of service will live on through her family and friends.
Visitation will be on Sunday (March 20th) 3-7 P.M. with a Parastas (Prayer Service) 5:00 P.M. at Muzyka Funeral Home, 2157 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago, Il 60622.
Funeral on Monday (March 21st) 10:30 A.M. at Muzyka Chapel.
Interment St. Nicholas Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ukrainian Defense Fund.
